Feasibility studies for the measurement of the time-like form factors of the proton in pp → µ⁺µ⁻ at the PANDA experiment. — •Iris Zimmermann — HIM Mainz

The process of annihilation of proton and antiproton into a pair of charged leptons can be used to investigate the inner structure of the proton. Simulations using the software package PANDARoot can provide information about the feasibility of using such processes. A challenge will be the suppression of the large hadronic background, mainly coming from π⁺π⁻, because of the similar masses of muon and pion. First simulation studies have been done to investigate the behaviour of the signal and background process inside the PANDA detector.
