The chiral condensate is the order parameter of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. We present results for the chiral condensate at nuclear and subnuclear densities in neutron matter based on chiral effective field theory (EFT). The calculations are based on a complete neutron matter calculation at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO) with estimates of the theoretical uncertainties. Our results provide constraints for astrophysics, and limit the possibility of a phase transition to quark matter at nuclear densities (n ≲ 0.2 fm−3).
