The ECHo Experiment aims to investigate the value of the electron neutrino mass in the sub-eV range by means of high precision high statistics calorimetric measurement of the electron capture spectrum of 163Ho.
The calorimetric measurement will be performed using arrays of low temperature metallic magnetic calorimeters (MMCs) where the 163Ho source is fully embedded in the absorbers, to ensure a complete absorption of the emitted radiation. These detectors combine a very high energy resolution, presently 2 eV (FWHM) for soft x-rays, with a fast signal rise-time of 90 ns.
We present our recent calorimetric measurements of the 163Ho electron capture spectrum. The data were acquired using two metallic magnetic calorimeters having the 163Ho ions implanted in the absorbers. We will discuss the performance of the detectors and present a preliminary analysis of the spectrum.
