Scintillating CaWO4 single crystals are currently used as target material in the cryogenic direct dark matter search experiment CRESST-II and will also be employed in the future EURECA experiment.
To ensure the availability of crystals that meet the requirements of these experiments, they are being produced in a dedicated Czochralski furnace at the crystal laboratory of the Technische Universität München in Garching.
An overview of the crystal-growth process and results of measurements of the crystals’ optical and scintillation properties and their radiopurity will be presented.
This research was supported by the DFG cluster of excellence: Origin and Structure of the Universe (www.universecluster.de) and by the BMBF: Project 05A11WOC EURECAXENON.
