Performance studies for the planned non-imaging wide-angle Cherenkov detector HiSCORE — •Dominik Spitschan, Sergey Epimakhov, Martin Tluczykont, Ulrich Einhaus, Dieter Horns, Maike Kunnas, and Rayk Nachtigall — Universität Hamburg
The planned non-imaging air Cherenkov experiment HiSCORE consists of a large array of detector stations, each equipped with four photomultiplier tubes. Its goal is to allow for gamma-ray and cosmic-ray observations at energies from 10 TeV up to many PeV, complementing current and planned experiments such as HESS and CTA.
Monte Carlo simulations were performed to optimize various aspects of the detector configuration -- the geometric layout, the size of the PMTs and the sampling rate. The simulations consist of air shower simulations with CORSIKA, a full detector simulation and a framework for event reconstruction. To compare different configurations, their effective areas and their performance in the reconstruction of original shower parameters, especially energy and direction, were calculated.
Results for various setups will be presented.
