Differential W → lν and Z → ll cross-sections measurements in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV with the ATLAS Detector at LHC. — •Mikhail Karnevskiy — University of Mainz, Mainz, Germany
Differential W → lν and Z → ll cross-sections measurements in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV with the ATLAS Detector at LHC.
The W and Z boson production cross-sections are known theoretically at the few percent level. Therefore the precision measurement of the W and Z boson production provides a stringent test of QCD evolution into the region of high Q2 at small Bjorken x and in addition a direct probe of the parton density functions (PDFs) of the proton.
The Z cross-section measurement in the electron channel is significantly extended by the inclusion of the forward detector region, which allows the upper limit of the pseudorapidity range for one of the electrons to be increased from 2.47 to 4.9. The extension of the measurement to the forward region with the rapidity range of |yZ| < 3.6 corresponds to an x range from 0.00036 to 0.48. Based on an integrated luminosity of about 4.7 fb−1 collected in 2011, the precision of these measurements reaches one percent level in the central and few percent level in forward rapidity region.
The results of these measurements are presented and the comparison with theoretical calculations based on different PDFs are discussed.
