Measurement of the Form Factors in the Decay Channel K±→ π0 e±νe — •David Lomidze — Institut für Physik, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität, Mainz, Germany
The increasing precision with which the unitarity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) quark mixing matrix can be tested is an important tool for exploring the limits of the Standard Model. One such unitarity relation is |Vud |2 + |Vus|2 + |Vub|2 = 1
whose uncertainty is dominated by the precision of |Vus |.
The K±→ π0 e±νe (Ke3) decay provides an excellent way for an accurate determination of the CKM matrix element |Vus|. To do this, a precise knowledge of the form factors in Ke3 decays is crucial.
The NA62 experiment at CERN collected a about 40 million Ke3 decays during a dedicated physics run in 2007 for the measurement of the ratio RK = Γ(K+ → e+ ν)/Γ(K+ → µ+ ν). With these statistics, a determination of the form factors with high precision is possible.
