Acceptance Systematics from Theory uncertainties in the H→µµ analysis at ATLAS — •Christian Rudolph, Wolfgang Mader, and Michael Kobel — IKTP TU Dresden, Germany
In the context of the search for a Standard Model Higgs boson and its decay mode to a muon-antimuon-pair at the ATLAS detector, it is crucial to know the number of signal events with high precision due to the similarity of the signature to other non-Higgs Standard Model processes. This acceptance study is performed using a truth-level RIVET analysis resembling the offline analysis procedure. Among the systematic uncertainties considered are the renormalization and factorization scales, PDF uncertainties and initial and final state radiation uncertainties. To quantify the effects of these uncertainties on the signal acceptance, the input parameters of Monte-Carlo simulations have been varied within their uncertainties. This study is part of the effort to measure the properties of the newly discovered boson by setting limits on its coupling to down-type second-generation leptons in a future analysis.
