Optimization of multivariate techniques for searches of ttH events in ATLAS at the LHC — Kevin Kröninger, Arnulf Quadt, •Leonid Serkin, and Elizaveta Shabalina — II. Physikalisches Institut, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen
In this talk we present a search for the Standard Model Higgs boson production in association with a pair of top quarks in ATLAS at the LHC. The search is focused on the semileptonic decay of the tt system and combines different topologies given by the jet and b-tagged jet multiplicities of the event. A kinematic reconstruction of the ttH topology is performed in the signal enhanced region, and several discriminating variables between signal and background are built. The final separation of events resembling those of the desired Higgs boson signal, while rejecting as many non-signal events as possible, is performed by combining the output variables of the kinematic fitter using multivariate techniques. The talk is focused on the optimization of the separation between signal and background using Boosted Decision Trees and Artificial Neural Networks based on a Bayesian approach.
