Search for squarks and gluinos with the ATLAS detector using final states with jets and missing transverse momentum at √s = 8 TeV — •Valerio Consorti — Albert-Ludwigs-Universität, Freiburg, DE
A search for squarks and gluinos in final states containing jets, missing transverse momentum and no high-pT electrons or muons is presented. The data were recorded in 2012 by the ATLAS experiment in √s = 8 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, with a total integrated luminosity of about 21 fb−1. This analysis consist on 5 channels inclusively defined in term of jet multiplicity, starting from di-jets final states up to final states with a minimum of 6 jets. The main source of Standard Model background comes form the associated production of Z + jets, where the Z boson decay in neutrinos. In the high jet multiplicity final states top pair production becomes the most relevant background process. A set of kinematic variables is used to separate the signal from the Standard Model background and a set of Signal Regions is defined by applying cats on these kinematic variables. The results are interpreted in simplified MSSM models where only first 2 generation of squarks and gluinos are produced in pair and they directly decay to the LSP.
