Top quark physics results from the CMS experiment — •Maria Aldaya — DESY, Hamburg, Germany
Since its discovery in 1995, the top quark is playing a central role in the study of fundamental interactions. Studies of the unique properties of the top quark serve as the instrument for precision tests of the Standard Model, play a key role in the measurement of the Higgs boson properties, and provide a testing ground for the possible discovery of a broad range of novel physics phenomena.
The large top quark samples collected by the LHC in the past two years allow for the measurement of top-quark production rates and properties to unprecedented precision, challenging the accuracy of the theoretical predictions.
I will review the current status of top-quark measurements performed with the CMS experiment at the LHC.
