Serial powering stave prototype for the ATLAS pixel detector at the HL-LHC — Andreas Eyring, •Laura Gonella, Fabian Huegging, Hans Krueger, and Norbert Wermes — Physikalisches Institut der Universitaet Bonn, Bonn, DE
Serial powering is proposed for the upgrades of the ATLAS pixel detector at the HL-LHC to achieve an efficient power distribution, with minimal passive material. To demonstrate this powering concept, a prototype pixel detector system has been built, featuring stave mechanics and cables for the detector outer layers at the HL-LHC, and double chip FE-I4A modules. Up to 5 detector modules are operated in a serial powering chain, including AC-coupling data transmission, and dedicated sensor biasing scheme. The serial powering stave will be described, and results of the characterization will be shown, in particular, module performance and noise studies.
