Performance studies on large size Micromegas detectors — •Philipp Lösel, Jonathan Bortfeldt, Ralf Hertenberger, Samuel Moll, Andre Zibell, and Otmar Biebel — LS Schaile - LMU München
To enhance the muon tracker of the ATLAS detector for the high luminosity phase at LHC, currently used detectors in the small wheel part of the spectrometer shall be replaced by square meter sized Micromegas detectors. So far, only small modules of about 10 cm × 9 cm have been tested intensively. So the behaviour of the large size modules has to be validated similar as for the small size ones.
A 1.2 m × 1 m sized module based on resistive strip technology has been tested in the H6 pion beam facility at SPS/CERN. It was operated in between a beam telescope consisting of several small Micromegas detectors providing track reference. Module parameters like efficiencies, spatial and angular resolution were investigated. We report on the performance of the detector, the achievable spatial and angular resolution and its homogeneity in efficiency, gas gain and signal propagation.
