Analysis of Electron and Positron Data from AMS-02 — •Andreas Obermeier — RWTH Aachen

Since May 2011 the AMS-02 Experiment gathers cosmic-ray data on the ISS in space. The detector comprises among other components a transition radiation detector and an electromagnetic calorimeter. This gives AMS-02 unprecedented separation power between light leptons and protons, which makes it a uniquely suited experiment to investigate for example the positron fraction of Galactic cosmic radiation. The positron fraction is a key observable in the search for signatures of dark matter or astrophysical sources of positrons like pulsars.

In this contribution we will present the preliminary results of one particular analysis method to derive the positron fraction. We will discuss template fits to determine the number of electron and positron events in different energy regions. The stability and systematic uncertainties of the method will also be investigated.
