Novel setup for the characterization of metal clusters with organic adsorbates by mass spectrometry — •Daniel Neuwirth, Bradley Visser, Kathrin Lange, Jan Eckhard, Martin Tschurl, Ulrich Boesl, and Ulrich Heiz — Technische Universität München, Lichtenbergstraße 4, 85748 Garching

Clusters of metal atoms often show a size dependent behavior, obviously different from the bulk metal. The experimental setup consists of a laser evaporation cluster source equipped with two pulsed nozzles. One is used to inject helium in order to cool the clusters and a second one for the injection of organic molecules into the cluster source. The produced metal clusters with organic adsorbates are then characterized in the gas phase by time of flight mass spectrometery. First results measured with the described setup are presented.
