Decoherence of the Orientation state — •Timo Fischer and Klaus Hornberger — Universität Duisburg-Essen
We introduce a Lindblad master equation describing the decoherence of
the orientation state of extended quantum objects, such as molecules.
Using the Monte Carlo unravelling the master equation is analyzed numerically.
We further determine the pointer states of the master equation, i.e. the pure states
which are minimally affected by the environment. They result from the competition of two
opposing effects, the dispersion caused by the coherent part of the dynamics
and the localization induced by the interaction with the environment [1]. To this end, we
solve an associated nonlinear equation for pointer states.
