Ultra cold neutral mercury trapped in an optical lattice lock has potential for a new time standard. A narrowband laser system with high stability on the 1 S0 - 3 P0 clock transition is required. We are working towards the realization of such a system. It is based on an external-cavity diode laser at 1062.4 nm which employs a low budget 4 nm broad interference-filter with a max. transition of 40%. Its output power is increased by amplification in an fiber amplifier. Subsequently, the wavelength of the clock transition at 265.6 nm will be reached by non-linear frequency conversion. The current state of the project will be presented.
