Over the last several years there has been a substantial increase of interest in artificial gauge fields and spin-orbit coupling for electrically neutral atoms [1-3]. The spin-orbit coupling with equal Rashba and Dresselhaus contributions has been recently implemented experimentally [4]. Here we consider manifestations of such a spin-orbit coupling for scattering of ultra-could atoms at the impurity sites [5]. In particular, we show that the spin-orbit coupling can lead to both suppression or enhancement of the atomic backward scattering. Additionally we have analysed the impurity-induced bound states for the spin-orbit coupled atoms.
