Ultrafast Lasers in Industrial Micromachining - Established Status and Future Trends — •Dirk Sutter1, Oliver Heckl2, and Christof Siebert21TRUMPF Laser GmbH + Co. KG — 2TRUMPF Laser- und Systemtechnik GmbH

Ultrafast Lasers have entered industrial micromachining over the past decade. Scaling of their average power by more than an order of magnitude has resulted in sufficient productivity for numerous commercial applications. High availability based on reliable diode pumping is a key for industrial success. Stable and reproducible beam quality at dynamic power variation can be guaranteed using the thin disk gain geometry combined with external modulation. The rising world-wide demand is barely satisfied by serial production of hundreds of systems per year. We review the state of the art of ultrafast disk lasers, mention several well established applications, and discuss current developments.
