From Polymer Physics to University Relationships: A Journey into BASF's Innovation Culture — •Valerie Andre — Senior Manager Science Relations and Innovation Management, BASF SE, Ludwigshafen
How do you organize your lab work? Do you need to travel a lot? Is German important? What about all the business meetings? Where do you get your ideas from? These are some of the questions young people ask regularly during visits at BASF and at conferences. While a scientist's job in industry remains to date largely unknown, complex and mysterious to the outsider, it is in fact rich, versatile and demanding to those close to the subject.
Few people know that the transition from deeply scientific topics to the world of business or production is quite common for scientists in industry and at BASF in particular. With the help of concrete examples various career paths within industrial research will be described as well as the scope of positions offered to scientists in general.
