The investigation of the superconducting properties of iron-based single crystals is important for the understanding of transport mechanisms responsible for superconductivity in those materials. Tunnel junctions are necessary in order to realize phase-sensitive measurement geometries for the investigation of the order parameter symmetry. To fabricate such tunnel junctions on Co-doped BaFe2As2(Ba-122) single crystals, which were produced with a self-flux method, we had to solve several issues. Using thin film technology requires high quality surfaces, so we show the results of several planarization techniques e.g. chemical mechanical polishing, ion beam smoothing, and crystal cleaving. Finally, we present first electrical measurements on photolithographically patterned Ba-122 single crystals.
