We study the conductance histograms of different metals such as Au and Al. Our theoretical approach combines molecular dynamics simulations of the stretching of atomic-sized wires with the non-equilibrium Green’s function formalism based on the tight-binding modelling of the electronic system. As compared to pervious work [1,2], we consider substantially larger wires and explore different lattice orientations.
The results show good agreement with experiments.
