Missile Defense Simulations and Strategic Stability in Europe — •Götz Neuneck and Christian Alwardt — IFSH, Universität Hamburg
Ballistic Missile defense (BMD systems are technological very ambitious and challenging. The defense performance and reliability including the leakegae rate are controversial and are hard to be determined under real conditions. Nevertheless, some countries, esp. Russia, see the emerging NATO BMD capabilities as a threat to their strategic arsenals, which is a serious obstacle to further arms control steps between the US and Russia. The talk presents several simulation results for the European BMD discussion and compares the results to conclude the implications for future arms control options.
