Hybrid solar cells based on metal-organic perovskite absorbers are of major interest due to their remarkable power conversion efficiencies of up to 15%. Recently, it has been shown that the morphology of the perovskite itself as well as the interplay between the absorber and the mesostructured electron acceptor strongly affects the electrical properties of the device. We present a combined study of the structure-function relationship of solution processed solar cells based on mesostructured perovskites. The morphology of the solar cells was studied by analytical transmission electron microscopy (ATEM). In ATEM electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and electron spectroscopic imaging (ESI) are applied in order to obtain material contrast. To be able to classify the TiO2 and the perovskite rich areas in the corss-section of the device a series of monochromatic images in the low-loss regime was acquired. We observed significant changes in pore size, pore filling and pore distribution of the mesostructured layer depending on the annealing conditions of the perovskite. Furthermore, we correlated our results to the I-V characteristics of the solar cells.
