Phase transitions in growing networks — •Jan Nagler — MPI for Dynamics and Self-Organization, Göttingen
Recent progress in the theory of discontinuous percolation allows us to better understand the the sudden emergence of large-scale connectedness in networked systems [1]. We analytically study mechanisms for the amplification of critical fluctuations at the phase transition point [2], non-self-averaging and power law fluctuations [3]. A single event analysis allows to establish criteria for discontinuous connectivity transitions. The framework helps also to predict abrupt tipping points in complex networks [4].
