Therapeutic proton (or carbon) beams hitting human tissue induce nuclear reactions, eventually producing β+-emitting reaction products (10,11C,14,15O,13N). Those can be used for an ion-beam range verification via positron emission tomography (PET). In order to allow for a precise treatment planning in hadron therapy, the most relevant nuclear cross sections need to be included with sufficient precision into the phenomenological hadron interaction modes of the Monte-Carlo simulation. However, many of these cross sections are not known to the desired accuracy. Thus, we started to develop the methodology to measure proton-induced reaction cross sections of medically relevant β+-emitters, starting with 16O(p,α)13N at the Garching Tandem accelerator (Ep=7−20 MeV). The experimental setup, procedure and status of the project will be displayed.
