Search for new physics with SOX — •Mikko Meyer for the Borexino collaboration — Institut für Experimentalphysik, Universität Hamburg
Several observed anomalies in neutrino oscillation data could be explained by a hypothetical fourth (sterile) neutrino. With the expected squared mass difference in the order of 1eV, this hypothesis can be tested with a MCi neutrino electron capture source (51Cr) or a kCi antineutrino β-source (144Ce-144Pr) deployed inside or near a large low background detector.
The SOX project (Short baseline neutrino Oscillations with BoreXino) aims for the detection of such an eV mass sterile neutrino by using these sources.
This talk will summarize the SOX concept and will show the expected sensitivity for the three possible phases of the experiment.
