Studies for Vector Boson Fusion in H→ WW searches at ATLAS — •Bonnie Chow, Johannes Elmsheuser, Nikolai Hartmann, Thomas Maier, and Christian Meineck — Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München
Studies relating to the vector boson fusion (VBF) process in the search of the Standard Model Higgs boson in proton-proton-collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s=8 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC are presented. The focus of the analysis is the Higgs boson decay channel H → W+W− → ℓ+ νℓ ℓ−ν_ℓ where ℓ = e, µ . Since the data taken by ATLAS up to now have revealed a particle consistent with the Standard Model Higgs boson, it is necessary to investigate such a signal. The talk will show the gain achieved when including an improved VBF selection based on cuts and multivariate techniques and discuss the systematic uncertainties of the analysis.
