The NA62 MUon Veto system — •Riccardo Aliberti — Institut fur Physik Mainz
The ambitious goal of the NA62 experiment is to achieve a direct measurement of the K+ → π+ νν decay branching ratio with an accuracy around 10%. This decay has a theoretical BR of 0.85 10−10 with a single track detectable: the π+.
The main decay channel rates for charged kaons are several orders of magnitude larger than those for the signal. For this reason the presence of a very efficient veto system to reject background events is mandatory.
In order to reduce the background coming from the misidentification of muons as pions, a system of three detectors, called muon veto (MUV 1-2-3), will be used.
This talk will present the structure and the state of the construction of the MUV1 detector, which is being built in Mainz.
