Characterization and Gain Monitoring of SiPMs for a Scintillating Detector with 2 Dimensional Position Resolution — •Johannes Großmann, Alexander Ruschke, Ralph Müller, Ralf Hertenberger, and Otmar Biebel — LS Schaile, LMU-München

The Silicon-Photomultiplier (SiPM) response of a position resolving scintillation detector for cosmic muons has been investigated. The detector consists of two trapezoidal plastic scintillators, optically insulated from each other, readout with wavelength shifting fibers and a SiPM system. Position resolution in one direction is achieved by separation of the rectangular cross section into two trapezoidal sections of the plastic scintillator. Incoming particles produce a position dependent amount of light in each trapezoid, depending on the path length within each trapezoid. The position resolution in the perpendicular direction is determined by the propagation time of light within the trapezoid. Light is collected by wavelength shifting fibers, each coupled to one or two SiPMs.

In this talk we report on the charaterization of SiPMs by their voltage-current characteristic and on an active gain stabilization system, which compensates temperature changes by voltage adjustment. Results from measurements will be presented.
