QCD in the LHC Era: Precision Measurements and Searches — •Katerina Lipka — DESY Hamburg

Designed for discoveries of the Higgs boson and physics beyond the Standard Model, the LHC is nonetheless a QCD machine operating in an unexplored energy regime. The LHC experiments are confronted with unprecedented rates of events containing multiple jets and vector bosons, as well as top quarks, which pose a challenge and an advantage at the same time. Successful running of the LHC at collision energies of 7 and 8 TeV allowed for a wealth of precision tests of QCD and for searches for various exotic processes in vastly extended kinematic regimes. The highlights of the results obtained by the two multi-purpose experiments, ATLAS and CMS, are reviewed with the main emphasis on the precise QCD-related measurements and the advancement they provided in the understanding of the phenomenology of proton-proton collisions.
