Since QCD processes are very dominant in high-energy collisions, the modelling of QCD jets is an important issue for multi-purpose Monte Carlo event generators. Properties such as QCD colour coherence, the destructive interference effect between colour-connected partons, or the emissions of soft jets are implemented in different ways in the existing parton shower algorithms. To compare different shower models, we propose observables which are sensitive to colour coherence and angular ordering or to effective 1 → 3 splitting kernels. We tune the different parton showers in Herwig++, Pythia8 and Vincia and predict distributions for the proposed observables. We present a new measurement of these new observables with data from the OPAL detector and compare the results to our predictions.
