Service routing and material description for the Phase II upgrade of the ATLAS Inner Tracker (ITk) — •Ralph Schäfer, Yvonne Peters, and Nicholas Styles — DESY, Hamburg
The high luminosity upgrade of the LHC (HL-LHC) is planned to start after the long shutdown 3. With an instantaneous luminosity of up to 1035 cm−2s−1 it is necessary to replace the inner detector (ID). The performance of the current ATLAS ID should be maintained while dealing with an average number of pileup interactions per bunch crossing of around 140. A fundamental aspect of the detector layout is the amount of material, particularly non-sensitive service material, and how it is distributed. This has been tested in Monte Carlo samples produced from Geant4 detector descriptions. Two different routings for the services of the pixel detector of the ITk are investigated and the tracking performances compared.
