Determination of the neutrino mass hierarchy with atmospheric neutrinos in LENA — •Michael Soiron, Marta Meloni, Achim Stahl, Marcel Weifels, and Christopher Wiebusch — Physikalisches Institut 3b, RWTH, Aachen, Germany
The LENA experiment is planed to be a 50kt liquid scintillator detector which will be able to detect neutrinos down to the KeV scale. One of its goals is the determination of the neutrino mass hierarchy. Besides a possible neutrino beam LENA is also sensitive to atmospheric neutrinos which can give information on the mass hierarchy due to matter effects within earth's interior. While LENA collects less statistics than PINGU, it has a higher energy resolution and can resolve oscillation minima at lower energies. In this talk first simulations and sensitivity estimates are presented.
