Search for new phenomena in monojet events with the ATLAS detector — •Philippe Calfayan1 and Ruth Poettgen2 — 1Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet, Muenchen — 2Johannes Gutenberg Universitaet, Mainz
The monojet search is motivated by various theories that predict the existence of new particles which weakly interact with the Standard Model fields. The manifestation of such scenarios in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider would result in events with large missing energy. The presence of an energetic jet in the final state allows to tag these events. Two specific topologies can be distinguished, namely the production of an invisible particle in association with a jet, or the pair-production of invisible particles with a jet originating from the initial state radiation.
Interpretations involving the production of Graviton, Gravitino, or Dark Matter candidates have been investigated, and limits on the branching fraction of a Higgs boson decaying to invisible particles have been derived. Results are shown using the 2012 ATLAS dataset with proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV.
