Tau Physics at the Energy and Luminosity Frontiers — •Ian Nugent — III. Physikalisches Institut, RWTH Aachen, Aachen

The tau lepton is the heaviest of the known charged leptons and therefore provides a unique tool to probe electroweak interactions, low energy QCD and for searching for new physics. New physics may appear in decays with tau leptons in the final state or in decays of the tau lepton. This is because, in many new physics models, the coupling strength of predicted particles is proportional to the mass of the particle. This is particularly true for models that address electroweak symmetry breaking. In this paper, results and prospects for tau physics at the luminosity and energy frontier will be presented.
