Multivalency is an important design principle in nature. It is based on the simultaneous binding of several relatively weak binding partners, in order to strengthen the over-all interaction[1]. In our project we focus in on the interaction of globular, multivalent target-inhibitor-systems, as they are found in virus-inhibition-assays[2]. In these systems the target/inhibitor is evenly covered with receptor-/ligand-binding sites. The resulting interaction is influence by the collective binding of multiple receptor-ligand-pairs as well as by geometric shielding due to the extended size of target and inhibitor. We use a combination of coarse grained simulations and analytical methods to study the influence of the particle size, receptor/ligand-density and geometric shielding on the effective binding constant.
