Polymer/cathode interface barrier limiting the open circuit voltage in polymer:fullerene organic bulk heterojunction solar cells — •Jairo Cesar Nolasco — Energy and Semiconductor Research Laboratory, Department of Physics, Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, D-26111, Germany
Factors which limit the open circuit voltage Voc in polymer bulk heterojunction solar cells is still a topic of controversy. Fundamentally, the Voc is determined by the balance of photogeneration and recombination, with recombination occurring either at the internal donor/aceptor interface or at the contacts. In case of ohmic contacts the losses have been mainly attributed to the donor/acceptor interface, whereas for the case of non-ohmic contacts, the dominant losses have been discussed in terms of minority carrier surface recombination occurring at the acceptor/cathode interface. In this contribution it is demonstrated the existence of a majoritary free carrier recombination occurring at the polymer/cathode barrier interface [1].
