Using circularly and linearly polarised radiation and a combination of bulk-sensitive hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray-absorption spectroscopy (XAS) we studied the electronic and magnetic structure of epitaxial Mn3−xCo1+xGa thin films. Element-specific magnetic moments and spin-resolved partial densities of states were determined by using XAS and XMCD. The valence states were investigated by using linear dichroism in the angular distribution and comparing the results to spin-resolved densities of states based on a first-principles analysis with fully relativistic Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker calculations.
