Mass-selected metal clusters were deposited on rare gas layers in order to investigate the electronic structure of the nanoparticles influenced by the surface. The electron states are analyzed with ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), using a monochomatic argon discharge lamp with a photon energy of hν=11.6 eV. As a reference we use UPS spectra of clusters measured in a free beam [1,2]. Using investigations of C60 molecules on rare gas films, the quantitative comparison between the spectra for clusters in a free beam and deposited on rare gas is significantly improved.
