Wake structures from fluid simulations of streaming ions in a complex plasma — •Ingmar Schnell, Hanno Kählert, Patrick Ludwig, Jan-Philip Joost, and Michael Bonitz — ITAP, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel
We present results from numerical fluid simulations for the ion flow around a dust particle in a complex plasma. The simulations are carried out under the influence of constant electric and magnetic fields and account for ion-neutral damping. Compared to calculations based on linear response theory [1], our method includes nonlinear effects such as shadowing when multiple dust particles are in close proximity within the plasma. The resulting wake structures show a crucial dependence on the Mach number and the magnetization. For the time evolution of the three dimensional model a pseudo-spectral method was used, which will be explained in more details. This work was supported by the DFG via SFB-TR24, projects A7 and A9.
