Inspiring Teachers around the World for Particle Physics: Teacher Programmes at CERN — Konrad Jende, Rolf Landua, and •Sascha Schmeling — CERN, Geneva, Switzerland
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, has four main missions: research, education, innovation, and uniting people.
Meeting with the recurring demand that teachers should be exposed to research, CERN runs a still growing programme for teachers from all member states, but also a large number of other states since 1998. This programme varies from national language programmes to international programmes usually held in English. One of their main goals is to raise and maintain the interest of students in physics and modern sciences by inspired, newly motivated and educated teachers.
The presentation will show an overview of CERN's activities in educational outreach, especially the teacher programmes, as well as preliminary experiences in this sector.
