Determination of the neutrino mass hierarchy with atmospheric neutrinos in JUNO — Christoph Genster, Theo Glauch, Marta Meloni, •Michael Soiron, Achim Stahl, Jöran Stattner, Marcel Weifels, and Christopher Wiebusch — RWTH Aachen University III. physikalisches Institut b
The JUNO experiment will be a 20kt liquid scintillator neutrino detector near Kaiping, China. Its main goal is the determination of the neutrino mass hierarchy from a precise measurement of the energy spectrum of neutrinos 50km from the reactor. Its large target mass will allow to also measure oscillations of atmospheric neutrinos. These can give information on the mass hierarchy due to matter effects during propagation through the Earth's interior. The sensitivity of a measurement of the mass hierarchy with atmospheric neutrinos will be discussed.
