Scattering of electroweak gauge bosons and anomalous quartic gauge couplings in the electroweak production of W±W±jj at the ATLAS detector — •Ulrike Schnoor, Philipp Anger, Christian Gumpert, Michael Kobel, and Anja Vest — Institut für Kern- und Teilchenphysik, TU Dresden

The scattering of massive electroweak gauge bosons is a process providing access to the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking as well as the self-interaction of the gauge bosons. In particular, it contains the quartic gauge vertex of W/Z bosons.

At the LHC, this process is accessible via the purely electroweak production of two jets and two massive electroweak gauge bosons. This talk presents the first observation of such a process in the channel of two like-charge W bosons at the ATLAS detector. Limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings introduced in the framework of an effective field theory are derived based on the measurement. Prospects for the measurement of electroweak gauge boson scattering processes at the future LHC are presented.
