Reconstruction of neutrino interactions in DeepCore and PINGU — •Andrii Terliuk — DESY, Zeuthen, Germany
DeepCore is a sub-array of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory which allows to lower the energy threshold of detectable events to about 10 GeV. It is used for studies of physics topics such as neutrino oscillations measurement using atmospheric neutrinos or WIMPs searches. The future PINGU extension will have even denser instrumentation and will lower the energy threshold to a few GeV. It will provide better sensitivity for such measurements.
Different techniques can be applied to convert the experimental signal (light pulses in optical modules) to physical properties of the interacting neutrinos such as arrival direction and energy. An overview of the most common reconstruction strategies and a comparison of their performances are presented in the talk.
