Future dark matter experiments - such as EURECA and SuperCDMS - will reach for unprecedented sensitivities for the cross section of the WIMP-nucleon interaction. This requires an unparalleled suppression of the background. External and internal shielding together with an active veto system have to be installed to suppress multiple sources of background - an important of which being neutrons.
In this talk we will focus on the development of two potential active veto systems - a water Cherenkov detector, which will allow to vetoing muon-induced neutron events - and a loaded scintillator acting as a dedicated ambient neutron veto in the vicinity of the detectors.
