As protons become frequently used for cancer treatment, online control of the dose distribution gains in importance. Prompt gammas emitted during nuclear processes in the irradiated tissue are potential messenger particles for the dose distribution.

We investigate a correlation between gamma yield and Bragg-peak position. Phantoms were irradiated with a proton beam and the resulting spectrum was recorded by a germanium detector with an active Compton shield.

The current setup is modelled in Geant4 to provide correction factors for the calculation of cross sections and investigation for possible upgrades for future measurements. Assessments of the detection efficiency as a function of gamma energy and the efficiency of the Compton shield are presented.
