Search for heavy diboson resonances decaying into W → ℓν and H → ττ with CMS — Thomas Hebbeker, Kerstin Hoepfner, Swagata Mukherjee, and •Thomas Esch — III. Physikalisches Institut A, RWTH Aachen
Heavy resonances that decay to two bosons could be an interesting signature for new physics. With increasing resonance masses, the two bosons get higher momenta and their decay products get closer to each other.
This talk shows the strategy for a search for heavy WH resonances with the CMS experiment where the W boson decays leptonically and the H boson decays to τ leptons. It will concentrate on semileptonic and fully hadronic H→ ττ decays and their reconstruction techniques, as well as on the selection criteria to seperate the signal against the background. In the end, an estimate for the sensitivity of this channel will be shown.
