The study of the ZZ production has an excellent potential to test the electroweak sector of the Standard Model, where Z boson pairs can be produced via non-resonant processes or via Higgs decays. A deviation from the Standard Model expectation for the ZZ production cross section would be an indication for new physics. This could manifest itself in so called anomalous neutral triple gauge couplings via ZZZ or ZZγ, which the Standard Model forbids at tree level.
The measurement of the ZZ production cross section is based on an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data at √s = 8 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector in 2012. Measurements of differential cross sections as well as searches for anomalous triple gauge couplings have been performed. This talk presents the analysis details with the main emphasis on the unfolding as well as the results of the measurement of the ZZ production in the ZZ→ 4l channel.
