We have measured the temperature dependent dielectric constant ε of GdMn2O5 under applied magnetic field H to map out complete magnetoelectric phase diagrams. The obtained ε(H,T) phase diagrams show that except for the antiferromagnetic ordering transition at TN1 ∼ 40 K, all other transitions are strongly field dependent relative to the crystallographic axes. The phase diagram for H ∥ a shows a one-to-one correspondence with the tunable polarization induced by 90∘ rotation of Gd magnetic moment. Our results support the model of two ferroelectric sublattices Mn-Mn and Gd-Mn with strong R-Mn (4f-3d) interaction for the polarization in RMn2O5. Contrary to other members of the RMn2O5 family, the ferroelectric transitions (TN2 ∼ 31 K and TC ∼ 29 K) are sensitive to the applied field.
